The result of decades of the U.S. military looking for a way to support and transport infantry in fast-moving combat situations, the Bradley fighting vehicle has served in nearly every deployment since its introduction in the 1980s. More than 6,000 have been produced and the widespread use makes them a favorite subject of modelers interested in modern armor.
Christian M. DeJohn's M2/M3 Bradley — America's Cavalry/Infantry Fighting Vehicle, provides a wealth of reference and inspiration for modelers. The 112-page hardcover, part of Schiffer's Legends of Warfare Ground series, is packed with beautifully printed photos and detailed captions. After a short section about the Bradley's concept and development, including a historical survey of infantry transports, DeJohn leaps straight into the fighting vehicle's operation use. Photos show them involved in exercises in the U.S. and Europe as well as combat or peacekeeping deployments for Desert Storm, Bosnia, Korea, Kosovo, and Iraq. These images show camouflage, weathering, and stowage to good effect. The second half of the book reveals details, including the interior and engine, guns and TOW launcher, periscopes, fenders, lights, and addon armor.
If you've been inspired to build a Bradley, you'll want this book at the bench along with your sprue cutters and sanding sticks.
