A Milwaukee, Racine & Troy three-bay covered hopper stenciled for buffer service is the latest HO scale kit available from the Kalmbach Hobby Store.
The contemporary car (era: 2015+) is inspired by prototype covered hoppers commonly found on unit ethanol and crude oil trains. The Pullman-Standard 4,750-cubic-foot capacity three-bay covered hopper, produced in the United States of America by Accurail, features an injection-molded plastic body with molded longitudinal running boards.
Modeler-installed parts on the body include a one-piece hatch cover, latitudinal running boards, end cages, brake wheel, chain fulcrum, crossover platforms, slope sheets, and slope sheet ends.
The underbody is a separate casting with freestanding center sill sections, outlet gates, bolster plates, and draft-gear box covers. Brake details include the air reservoir, triple valve, and brake cylinder/lever.
In addition, the kit includes roller-bearing trucks, Delrin engineering plastic wheelsets, and Accumate knuckle couplers with modeler installed-trip pins. A steel weight and two-sided instruction sheet are also included with the kit.
Milwaukee, Racine & Troy No. 98050 is painted gray with black graphics, a three-panel consolidated stencil, and yellow FRA-224 stripes. The “Buffer Service Hatch Covers and Outlet Gates Welded” is in a rough stencil font, similar to what’s on the prototype.
The limited-edition model is offered in one road number. Order today to add this covered hopper to your modern-era layout.
